Sean Hogan to Coach the Yellowstone Quake
The Yellowstone Quake Board of Directors has announced the hiring of a new coach for Cody`s Junior A hockey team. Sean Hogan, the head coach of the Oakland University (MI) Grizzlies and the Hockey Director of the Rochester Hockey Club, agreed to a two-year contract and has already started recruiting players on behalf of the Quake.

"We are excited to have Coach Hogan join our organization," Quake Board President Bob Bole said, "His background and enthusiasm will help our program to continue building quality hockey players. The Yellowstone Quake were the 2008-2009 regular season Northern Pacific Hockey League (Nor Pac) America West Division champions.

During Hogan`s four-year tenure as coach of the Oakland University Men`s Hockey team, the Grizzlies won the American College Hockey Association`s Division II Championship in 2006. Hogan spearheaded a move to the higher level and the Grizzlies won the ACHA Division I Championship the following year, the first time in league history a team moved up to the Division I ranks of the ACHA and won the national title. Hogan was assistant coach when the Grizzlies won their first national championship in 2004.

In addition to coaching duties at OU, Hogan is also the Hockey Director and Coaching Director for Rochester (MI) Hockey Club, the largest hockey organization in Michigan. He also manages ONYX, a three-sheet ice facility.

When asked why he would want to coach at the Junior A hockey level, Hogan said, "I have always had a keen interest in Junior Hockey. I take great pride in my ability to develop players not only on the ice but with life skills. I want to play an integral role in helping players achieve their dream of playing collegiate hockey." It also helped that the Quake are in the Nor-Pac league. "In my experience with the Nor Pac, the first thing I noticed was the professionalism of the organizations. Full-time coaches, incredible community and ancillary support, and an all around willingness to grow and move players to the next level. To me the most important aspect of junior hockey is the ability of the organization to put more emphasis on promoting players than win loss records. I noticed that immediately with the Yellowstone organization. Winning is important, but striving to win, and the attitude is what develops players and gives them the opportunity to compete at the next level."

An organized, results-oriented, team player, Hogan was Rookie of the Year when he played hockey at Iona College (New Rochelle, NY) in 1997. He completed his B.A. degree in Public Policy and Public Administration at Michigan State University. A former Golden Gloves boxer, Hogan is a native of Waterford, MI and plans a move to Cody by August. Until then, he will concentrate recruiting and training camp efforts in Michigan, the state from which half of last year`s Quake team hailed.

Tryout camps will take place August 13-16, 2009 at the Victor J. Riley Arena in Cody. The Yellowstone Quake resume regular season play the first week in October.
